Technical Assignments

Technical Report 1 (pdf)

Technical Assignment 1 is an existing structural systems report. Calculations of gravity loads as well as lateral loads (wind and seismic) were performed. Spot checks of structural members were performed to gain a better understanding of the existing structural system.

Technical Report 2 (pdf)

Technical Assignment 2 is an analysis of alternate floor systems. Four alternate structural floor types were investigated and compared to each other and the existing floor system. In addition to the existing steel composite floor system, a steel noncomposite, two open web steel joist, a precast hollow-core concrete plank, and a one-way slab floor system were analyzed.

Technical Report 3 (pdf)

Technical Assignment 3 is a detailed analysis of the lateral force resisting system. The Macallen Building uses a combination of prefabricated staggered steel trusses, steel moment frames, and cast-in-place concrete shear walls to resist lateral loads. The primary analysis tool used in this report is ETABS.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project ar e solely the interpretation of Alex Kosis. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
